Foreigners can work in North Macedonia, but they must obtain both a work permit and a temporary residence permit.
馃泜 Work Permit & Residence Requirements
Job Offer & Employer Sponsorship
A foreign national must first secure a job offer from a North Macedonian employer. The employer then initiates the work permit application process by obtaining a certified work permit application (RD-2/1) from ESARM.
Type D Visa Application
With the RD-2/1 form, the foreign worker applies for a long-term Type D visa at the nearest North Macedonian embassy or consulate. Required documents include:
A valid passport (with at least 6 months validity)
Completed visa application form
Recent passport-sized photographs
Job offer letter from a North Macedonian employer
Proof of qualifications (diplomas, certificates)
Criminal record check from the applicant's home country
Medical certificate
Proof of accommodation in North Macedonia
Arrival & Temporary Residence Permit
Upon arrival in North Macedonia with the Type D visa, the foreign employee must complete the temporary residence permit application process at the Ministry of Interior. This includes submitting all required documents and registering with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Permit Validity & Restrictions
The work and residence permits are typically valid for the duration of the employment contract and are tied to the specific employer and job role. If the employment ends, the permits may become invalid.
馃搳 2024 Work Permit Quota
As of January 2024, North Macedonia has established a quota system for work permits to manage the number of foreign workers
General Employment: 19,000 permits
Assigned Foreign Workers: 600 permits
Seasonal Work: 200 permits
Individual Services: 200 permits
UNHCR
The Employment Agency monitors and ensures that the number of active work permits does not exceed these quotas.
✅ Eligibility Categories
Foreign nationals may be eligible for work permits under various categories, including:
Close family members of North Macedonian citizens
Individuals of Macedonian origin up to the third generation
Asylum seekers or those with refugee status
Additionally, certain short-term services, such as participation in trade fairs or cultural events, may not require a work permit but do require registration.
馃晵 Processing Time
The entire process, from obtaining the work permit to securing the temporary residence permit, typically takes around 45 days.
Laundry worker
The duties of a laundry worker typically involve cleaning, drying, folding, and maintaining clothes and other textiles. Here’s a detailed list of common responsibilities:

Structural welding can be a good career for many reasons:
High Demand: Welders, especially those with structural experience, are in high demand in construction, infrastructure, shipbuilding, and manufacturing sectors.
Good Pay: Skilled structural welders often earn competitive wages, and those with certifications or specialized skills (like underwater or pipeline welding) can earn even more.
Job Stability: As long as infrastructure projects and industrial work continue, the need for structural welders remains strong.
Career Growth: With experience, welders can move into supervisory roles, quality inspection, or become welding engineers or educators.
Hands-on Work: If you enjoy working with your hands and seeing tangible results, it’s a fulfilling profession.
